Sacred to the memory of Rt. Rev. Alfred Augustin Watson, Bishop of the Diocese of East Carolina. The death of this most consecrated servant of God, and most faithful and earnest minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, took place in Wilmington, North Carolina on Good Friday, April 21st, 1905, in the 87th year of his age. "It was a most impressive coincidence that he should have died on the day and about the hour which his own Church and the larger part of the christian world observes as the day and hour of the crucifixion of Him whose footsteps he so faithfully followed from his youth to the end of a long life."
