The Smallwood House was located on Craven and New Street. It was the property of Eli Smallwood (1782-1860) and went to his eldest son, Dr. Edward Fleet Smallwood. Margaret Waters Smallwood, wife of Dr. Edward F. Smallwood, is identified as the elderly woman in the photograph. She died in 1902.

Six people standing on a covered side porch can be seen in this photograph of a house with a picket fence. An electrical pole, street lamp, and fire hydrant can be seen in the image.
