In October 2002 and October 2003, both organizations held a Family Bible Photocopying project and asked people to bring their Family Bibles to be copied. A copy was made for the Library and another copy for the owner of the Bible. These two projects brought over thirty Family Bibles, photocopies of which were added to the Library's collection. Since 2003, other Family Bibles have surfaced and were copied by Library Staff members for inclusion in the Bible Records Project. Bowden Balma Collection Description An account of the resource Collection of Photographs of New Bern taken in November 1908 by William Scobie Bowden, former Union Soldier. Bowden had been stationed in New Bern during the Civil War and returned to attend the dedication of the Massachusetts monument in the National Cemetery in November 1908. Mrs. Balma is the granddaughter of William Scobie Bowden. Herbert E. Valentine, however, in his scrapbook has some of the same images and stated "The following photographs (except as indicated) were taken by H.E. Title A name given to the resource Family Bibles Project Subject The topic of the resource Family Bibles Description An account of the resource The following Family Bibles collection began as a project with the New Bern-Craven County Public Library and the Craven County Genealogical Society of North Carolina. In October 2002 and October 2003, both organizations held a Family Bible Photocopying project and asked people to bring their Family Bibles to be copied. A copy was made for the Library and another copy for the owner of the Bible. These two projects brought over thirty Family Bibles, photocopies of which were added to the Library's collection. Since 2003, other Family Bibles have surfaced and were copied by Library Staff members for inclusion in the Bible Records Project. If you have a Family Bible of a Craven County family or a family from a surrounding county that you would like to include in the Project, contact the Kellenberger Room of the New Bern-Craven County Public Library to make an appointment.
